The world’s only platform capable of testing wind turbine blades up to 200 meters long has recently been put into use at the new energy innovation base in Sheyang County, Yancheng City of Jiangsu Province.
Testing specialist Li Fu said the platform spans an area of 66,600 square meters including a test space of 40,000 square meters. Construction began in October 2022, and the platform started offering test services for 90 and 98-meter-long blades in August and November of this year, respectively, before becoming fully operational.
It is the world's largest and only one platform capable of simultaneously testing four blades for 20 megawatt (MW) turbines. It is also the only facility that can accommodate 200-meter blade test. Currently, the longest blade off the production line measures 126 meters.
In recent years, Sheyang has concentrated on the development of wind power industry and has attracted investments from 27 leading new energy enterprises, including Envision Energy, Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric and Hengtong Group. Sheyang has also established a cluster for wind power generation and equipment manufacturing, which was recognized as the province’s first characteristic SMEs hub in the new energy sector in July.
