The 5th Zijin International Intellectual Property Summit commenced in Nanjing on September 10.
According to the research report of IP strengths released at the summit, the top 10 cities in intellectual property development are Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and Tianjin. Notably, Nanjing and Suzhou from Jiangsu Province made it to this list.
Jiangsu leads other province-level regions in the country with nine cities in top 50, followed by Zhejiang, Guangdong and Shandong provinces, according to Qi Yong, president of the Jiangsu International IP Institute at Nanjing University of Science and Technology and member of the research team.
The total number of valid invention patents in Jiangsu has reached 460,000, and the province maintained the highest average ownership of invention patents per 10,000 people for several consecutive years. Furthermore, patents held by enterprises accounted for over 80%, and about 40% are related to the strategic and emerging industries. Jiangsu also holds the top position in the number of invention patents in sectors like high-end manufacturing, biotechnology, new medicine, and new materials.
The summit also saw the launch of IP Operation Center for Biomedical Industry in the Jiangbei New Area, which boasts a burgeoning life science and healthcare industry chain, primarily focusing on gene and cell therapy.
