The 2023 Global AI Product and Application Expo opened in Suzhou on June 25.
The "China City AI Development Index Report (2022-2023)," released at the expo’s opening ceremony, evaluated the development of AI industry in more than 300 cities from five dimensions: scale, vitality, technological innovation, funding and policy support. Suzhou and Nanjing ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, in terms of comprehensive strength.
Jiangsu has already built a first-mover advantage in the AI industry. In particular, Suzhou was approved as a national pilot zone for the innovation and development of new-generation AI in 2021. Suzhou has made efforts to attract leading domestic and international enterprises to settle in the city and has actively strengthened the cultivation of local companies, resulting in a booming AI industry. The output of AI-related industries in Suzhou reached 125 billion yuan in 2022, with an average growth rate of 22.7% in the past three years.
Suzhou Industrial Park is the first national-level economic and technological development zone in China to focus on the AI industry and formulate systematic industrial planning. SIP is also the core area for Suzhou to build a national pilot zone for the innovation and development of new-generation AI.
Currently, the park is home to 166 R&D, engineering and technology centers at municipal level and above, including 72 at provincial level and above. Smooth progress has been made in the development of pro-innovation platforms, such as SISDC, SISCC, and SCMI.
In terms of talent resources, the park has more than 900 top-notch talents at all levels, along with an AI talent pool of 30,000 people led by leading teams. In addition, the park hosts approximately 1,500 enterprises related to AI, including 16 listed enterprises, 54 unicorns and 187 gazelle enterprises.
