The 2023 China World Photonics Development Conference opened in Suzhou City on May 30, attracting renowned experts, scholars, industry leaders, and enterprise representatives from home and abroad.

The meeting was held at the Suzhou New District (SND), bordered by the Taihu Lake, with the aim of turning Suzhou into a powerhouse in the photonics industry.

During the conference, the Suzhou Municipal Government and the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering (CSOE) signed a strategic cooperation agreement. They will collaborate on developing the CSOE Yangtze River Delta Headquarters, the Photonics Technology Collaborative Innovation Center, and the International Photonics Industry Innovation Alliance, with the first batch of projects under the innovation center also unveiled in the meeting.

In addition, Nanjing University, Soochow University, and Suzhou University of Science and Technology announced their partnerships with leading enterprises to establish an advanced measurement development center, a marine IT and equipment industry alliance, and a photonics frontier technology research institute, respectively. These initiatives aim to promote collaboration between industries, academic institutions, and research institutes.

In recent years, Suzhou has actively supported the development of the photonics industry, listing it as one of the 16 manufacturing fields to be developed into industrial innovation hubs in the city’s blueprint for the digital economy. Suzhou has taken the lead in establishing a laser industry alliance under the framework of the G60 sci-tech corridor. As a result, Suzhou has gradually emerged as an important player in the global photonics industry.
