Jiangsu plans to invest 200.2 billion yuan for transport infrastructure in 2023, a year-on-year growth of 10.7%, amid efforts to improve the modern integrated transport network, according to the government work report delivered at the first session of the 14th Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress opened on January 15.
Cai Renjie, Party chief and chairman of Jiangsu Communications Holding, said the company will continue to expand effective investment and has plans for 37 highways and river-crossing passage projects with an investment of 73.66 billion yuan, an increase of 17 billion yuan than in 2022, up 30% year-on-year.
As a powerhouse of waterway transport, Jiangsu's cargo throughput at ports reached 3.24 billion tonnes, highest in the country. The province plans to complete investment of 18.3 billion yuan for waterway transport projects.
Yang Weidong, deputy to the congress and also chairman of China Design Group, said more efforts are needed to improve transport capacity and efficiency through the use of intelligent technologies, especially on key waterways with large freight volumes.
