Nanjing Lukou International Airport has been adorned with festive decorations such as Chinese knots and Chinese character "fu" (meaning blessing or happiness) to welcome the Spring Festival, Lunar New Year.

On January 10, passengers were seen posing with photos in Terminal 1 before boarding the plane to go back to hometowns.

Gu Jian, a passenger, said he’s a native of Anhui Province and his wife is from Shaanxi Province and he feels excited to bring his 3-year-old son to meet grandparents living in Shaanxi’s Yulin City.

The arrival hall of Terminal 2 also had many people eagerly waiting passengers from international inbound flights including those from Hong Kong and Macao. Holding a bunch of flowers, Yao Wen was there to pick up a friend from the United States, who came back to China to see her parents face-to-face for first time in more than three years.

The airport handled 14 inbound and outbound international flights with 2,615 passengers on January 8 while daily passenger volume is expected to increase ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday. There are currently 12 airlines operating 9 international and regional routes at the airport, with about 70 inbound flights per week.

During the Spring Festival travel rush, the airport is expected to handle 20,000 flights, about 512 flights per day, up 6.3% year on year or about 80% of the level in the same holiday period in 2019. The airport will handle 2.2 million passenger trips or 55,000 trips per day, up 13.17 year on year or 65% of the passenger volume in the same holiday period in 2019.
