The city cluster in the Yangtze River Delta region ranked first in China, according to the latest edition of the China Urban Development Report, released by the Research Institute for Eco-civilization of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Social Science Academic Press on November 7.

Shan Jingjing, researcher at the research institute and also editor of the report, said researchers reviewed and compared the development of China's 16 major city clusters from six dimensions: economic development, scientific and technological innovation, integration, environment, open development performance and shared development performance.

The report divided China's city clusters into three tiers. In the first tier from 2010 to 2020, the delta region ranked first for most of the time, followed by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

In 2020, the GDP of the delta region, the Greater Bay Area, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region accounted for 23.78%, 10.38%, 10.03% and 10.03% of the country's total, respectively.

The per capita GDP in the delta region and the Greater Bay Area reached 124,100 yuan and 114,400 yuan, respectively.
