A freight train carrying thirty-seven 40ft containers departed from the yard at the Suzhou West Station on August 29 for Vientiane, the capital of Laos, the second such freight train service from Suzhou via the China-Laos Railway this year.

This also means Suzhou will basically resume the monthly freight train services to Vientiane through the landmark project of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, according to China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group.

The goods, mainly fertilizer produced by local enterprises in Suzhou, are expected to arrive at Vientiane South Station in 7 days after a journey of about 3,800 km.

Since February this year, the external situation and COVID-19 have hit hard the global sea shipping and air transport industries. Meanwhile, the newly opened China-Laos Railway provides a stable logistics solution for foreign trade enterprises. It will also help export more Jiangsu products in the future and inject a growth momentum for the development of Suzhou and the Yangtze River Delta.
