The Jiangsu-Germany Dialogue 2022 opened in Changzhou on July 7, with a satellite event held in Frankfurt, Germany.

Du Chunguo, Chinese Consul General in Düsseldorf, said the conference came at the right time amid China's closer relations with EU and Germany.

He said the coastal province is home to more than 1,000 German-invested enterprises, nearly a quarter of the European country’s investment in China. The sister-province relationship between Jiangsu and North Rhine–Westphalia is also one of the earliest between China and Germany.

Over the past 34 years, the two sides have promoted pragmatic cooperation in many fields including trade, economy, education and healthcare, according to Du. There is still potential for closer cooperation in areas, such as two-way investment, advanced manufacturing, green mobility, trade in services, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Jiangsu's excellent business environment makes it a top destination for foreign investors, which also bring high-quality resources to the province. For example, Thyssenkrupp, a Germany-based group of industrial and technology companies, has increased investment in Changzhou for six times in six years.

Sebastien Baran, CEO of Thyssenkrupp Steering Changzhou, said he is confident of the development of Jiangsu and Changzhou. With a total investment of 12.5 million euros, the company is expected to expand new production capacities for 770,000 electronically adjustable damper systems per year in Changzhou.

The event saw the signing of ten projects involving smart electric vehicles, medicine, equipment manufacturing and new materials, which involved a total investment of 188 million euros.

An incubation center for German enterprisers was also launched in the Sino-German (Changzhou) Innovation Industrial Park.
