The land port in Xuzhou and sea port in Lianyungang celebrated the success of the first rail-sea intermodal transport between the two cities.

On March 18, a cargo train transported exports in 30 TEUs from Xuzhou to the coastal city, which were then loaded onto a container ship on March 22 on its way to Jakarta and Surabaya in Indonesia.

In the past, empty containers will be delivered to Xuzhou from Lianyungang first, loaded with cargos by local companies and then transported to the coastal city. In the new way, Xuzhou’s exporters can use local containers for shipping directly, which can shorten the transport time by 3 to 5 days.

Amid the fight against COVID-19, this intermodal transport can help solve the shortage of empty containers in ports and also will help Xuzhou become a distribution center for companies in the Huaihai Economic Zone.
