China aims to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. To help realize the carbon goals, Jiangsu Province has taken a series of measures and can do more to support eco-friendly development, according to Li Yehong, deputy to the National People's Congress, and Song Qing, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Li, also director of Yesheng Fresh Fruits Cooperative in Dushan Village of Yuyi County, Huai’an City, said the county recently became the first in Jiangsu to roll out a support policy to build the power grid connecting solar panels installed on the roof of buildings.
Yushan Village, home to the Yushan Tea Processing Factory, is also increasing the use of renewable energy to achieve net zero emission, according to Li.

Song, deputy head of the Urban Development Think Tank at Suzhou University of Science and Technology, said the province should make full use of its strengths in rich scientific and educational resources and promote application of digital technologies to advance the province’s sustainable development.
During her research, Song found that some industrial parks and enterprises in Suzhou have already achieved energy saving and carbon reduction through turning to digitalization, which makes it possible to blaze a trail for coordinated progress of digital economy and low-carbon economy.
She suggested that Jiangsu should strengthen efforts to boost carbon sink capacity, establish a sound market for low-carbon products, support carbon trading programs, and improve efficiency of resource allocation through the market.
Private investment should be encouraged to establish public environmental funds and improve ecological credit assessment system, in the view of Song. She called for efforts to support the development of green financing, encourage the establishment of “carbon bank” and promote green asset securitization.
