The Jiangsu division of the 4th Bloom Cup 5G Application Competition selected 74 winning projects out of 388 entries, which cover industrial manufacturing, Internet of Vehicles, smart city, healthcare and other fields.
Zheng Kang, director of Wireless Cloud Network R&D Department of China Mobile Zijin Research Institute, said Nanjing Iron and Steel United, Nanjing branch of China Mobile and the institute have cooperated to develop 20 applications to improve efficiency and lower the cost. For example, a new quality check application has increased the accuracy by 200% and efficiency by 500%, and the use of drone to patrol the plant and terminal saves 90% of manpower and shortens response time from 10 minutes to 1 minute.

To support 5G applications, the province has invested over 66 billion yuan since 2020 for IT infrastructure, such as gigabit optical network, Big Data center and industrial internet. By the end of August, the total number of 5G base stations in the province reached 93,000, ranking second in the country, and among which 22,000 new stations were built this year.
The coastal province boasts a favorable policy environment for 5G development. To realize goals including the "double gigabit" network infrastructure initiative, multiple departments have worked together to facilitate coordinated design, approval and acceptance.
The province’s Department of Industry and Information Technology and Communications Administration have vigorously promoted the integration of 5G with many sectors. By the end of August, Jiangsu had implemented 1,823 5G application projects, created 441 role models, and formed 219 industrial solutions. Meanwhile, the province has added 10 more projects over the investment threshold of 10 million yuan in its “5G+industrial Internet” program, bringing the total number of such projects to 61.
