Jiangsu’s foreign trade up 17.1% in first eight months

Jiangsu Province's foreign trade in the first eight months increased by 17.1% year on year to more than 3.28 trillion yuan, accounting for 13.3% of the country’s total, according to Nanjing Customs.  

The exports in the period hit 2.03 trillion yuan, up 18.6%, and imports grew by 14.7% year on year to 1.25 trillion yuan.  

General trade rose by 24.3% year on year to more than 1.87 trillion yuan, accounting for 57% of the total trade volume, 3.3 percentage points higher than the same period last year.   

During the January-August period, the total imports and exports of processing trade and comprehensive bonded areas across the province reached 1.02 trillion yuan and 354.49 billion yuan respectively, up 1.9% and 38.4% year on year.  

During the eight months, Jiangsu’s trade with EU, ASEAN, the US, South Korea and Japan reached 490.5 billion yuan, 470.5 billion yuan, 439.1 billion yuan, 336.6 billion yuan and 284.2 billion yuan, up 18.4%, 20.8%, 13.2%, 8.3% and 10.5% respectively. Trade with countries along the Belt and Road initiative rose by 21.9% to 831.48 billion yuan. 

Playing an important role in driving the province’s trade expansion, private enterprises reported the imports and exports volume of 1.23 trillion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 28.1%, 11 percentage points higher than the provincial average. They were behind 37.5% of the province’s foreign trade, 3.3 percentage points higher than the same period last year.   

During the same period, foreign-invested enterprises reported trade of 1.76 trillion yuan, up 10.7%, and foreign trade by state-owned enterprises totaled 294.5 billion yuan, up 16.2%.
