The Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province and the Nanjing Chapter of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China jointly held the Jiangsu Government Dialogue & Europe Day Celebration on June 16.

Representatives from the government departments, industrial parks and enterprises held exchanges with those from the EU companies over a broad range of topics, such as carbon neutrality, workplace safety, and business environment.

Dr. Andreas Risch, chair of the local board of Nanjing Chapter, said results of the European Business in China Business Confidence Survey 2021, released on June 8, showed 68% of respondents are optimistic about future growth in China despite the impacts of COVID-19. The study also showed commitment to the China market remains strong – the lowest share on record to shift any current or planned investment out of China. For EU companies based in Nanjing, 93% of respondents reported a flat or positive growth of earnings before interest and tax (EBIT).

By the end of 2020, more than 6,000 European companies had invested in Jiangsu. The EU has become the coastal province’s largest trade partner, second largest FDI contributor and third largest receiver of outbound investment.
