Jiangsu Province has four of 34 five-star industrial demonstration bases for China’s new-type of industrialization, according to the latest evaluation by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Such demonstration bases are seen as an important way to improve the development level of industrial parks, promote the transformation of industrial clusters, and accelerate industrial restructuring in the country. The ministry announced 34 winners of the top award, a 5-star recognition.
The four winning parks in Jiangsu are located in Jiangning District, Nanjing City, and Xuzhou Economic Development Zone for equipment manufacturing, Suzhou Industrial Park for IT, and Lianyungang Economic and Technological Development Zone for pharmaceutical industry.
Jiangsu has the second largest number of five-star demonstration bases after Shanghai, tied with Shandong and Guangdong. The development zone in Lianyungang is also the only park in Jiangsu to win the honor for two consecutive years.
Jiangning District in Nanjing City is home to a booming cluster of advanced manufacturing industry, with world’s top companies including NARI Group, Siemens and ABB, as well as 17 listed companies. It boasts a complete industrial chain and the cluster’s annual output of over 100 billion yuan.
Xuzhou has also gathered nearly 1,000 equipment manufacturing enterprises, including two companies recognized as national role models of intelligent manufacturing. The development zone also has more than 20 overseas manufacturing bases and R&D centers, and products have entered into the market of 183 countries and regions.
Lianyungang now has China’s largest production base for medicine against cancer and hepatitis. Nearly 40 products have sales of more than 100 million yuan each.
Suzhou Industrial Park stands out for a strong IT industry, with 6 of the world's top 10 packaging and testing enterprises and 9 enterprises ranking among the top 30 in the sector in China. The park now has a full-fledged IC industry chain that encompasses design, wafer processing, packaging and testing as the core, which is further underpinned by companies in equipment, raw materials and services. Revenue of ICs accounts for about 5% of the country's total.
