East China’s Jiangsu Province saw 1,273 China-Europe cargo train trips made in 2020, a rise of 36.4 percent compared with the previous year, Nanjing Customs said on January 13.

The trains transported cargo worth 12.31 billion yuan, up 53.8 percent from 2019,  bucking the downward trend in a year disrupted by COVID-19.

A China-Europe freight train carrying 94 TEUs left Xuzhou City to Hamburg of Germany, on November 28, marking the 600th trip of China-Europe freight trains from Xuzhou.

Due to the pandemic, retails through cross-border e-commerce reported the strongest growth, and more companies chose the freight trains for the stable operation and faster delivery time. Nanjing Customs has expanded the streamlined measures to all 12 cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones, helping companies tap into the global market and increasing the freight train’s performance.

Meanwhile, to support the province’s strategy to become a transport powerhouse, Nanjing Customs also took the initiative to meet development requirements from all regions, such as supporting the business development and coordinating different stakeholders.

Three new freight routes, Lianyungang- Ulan Bator, Xuzhou- Hamburg and Hai’an-ASEAN, were launched in Jiangsu in 2020, bringing the number to 12 and setting a new record.
