In the first quarter this year, Nanjing Customs reviewed tax relief for cargos worth $1.961 billion, approved tax exemption of 793 million yuan, and issued 7,603 Certificates on the Levy or Exemption of Tax, up 59.42 percent, 4.58 percent, and 30.97 percent year on year.

Yang Yongjie, manager of customs affairs at NGK Automotive Ceramics, said the company enjoyed tax deduction and exemption totaling 6.27 million yuan in the first three months. The Suzhou-based company produces ceramics for purifying exhaust of gasoline-powered vehicles to meet the “China V" emission standards, with a large amount of imports from Japan every year.

According to national regulation, from March 2, imports that originate in the United States and are in compliance with the tax deduction and exemption policy can apply for the exclusion of products subject to additional tariffs imposed by China as countermeasures against the U.S. Section 301 measures.

Yu Qing, head of corporate management department of Suzhou Customs, said the department will notify companies that have applied for tax deduction and exemption to comply with the new regulation and they are exempt from paying additional tariffs of 315,000 yuan.
