Malanshan Initiative issued at international communication forum

The International Communication Forum of the China New Media Conference was held in Changsha, Hunan Province on the afternoon of July 12, 2023. Representatives from 21 international communication agencies jointly initiated in Changsha to work together to comprehensively enhance the effectiveness of international communication.

Representatives from China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, All-China Journalists Association, Publicity Department of Hunan Provincial Party Committee, and Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism delivered speeches at the forum. Media professionals, experts and scholars, representatives from enterprises also shared their practices and thoughts in delivering the Chinese voice overseas.

Du Zhanyuan, director of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, said that the changes in the world are unfolding in unprecedented ways, and the media has a greater responsibility in China's interaction with the world and the world's understanding of China. He pointed out that international communication should focus on the Chinese-style modernization and proposed to enhance the capacity for foreign language network communication, expand the application of new technologies, and give "new wings" for the telling of Chinese stories.

Qian Tong, editor-in-chief of Xinhua Net, believed that in recent years, local media outlets and outbound enterprises all have made active attempts and explorations in strengthening the construction of international communication capabilities.

Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, pointed out that foreign nationals who understand and love China make it easier to help China connect with the world.

In the salon dialogue session, representatives from companies such as China Eastern Airlines, CRRC Corporation Limited, and Huawei, as well as renowned scholars, discussed how new media can help to enhance the brands visibility across the world.

As the highlight of the forum, six flagship outlets including CGTN and China Daily, together with 15 provincial-level international communication center from Sichuan, Chongqing, Hainan, and Jiangsu, jointly issued the Malanshan Initiative to the international communication practitioners of the new era, with the aim of promoting cultural exchanges and mutual understanding of civilizations.
