Jiangsu Province is carrying out its summer harvest at full throttle, aiming to complete all work before June 15 to minimize the impact of adverse weather.
As of June 10, the harvested area for wheat in Jiangsu reached 27.98 million mu, accounting for 78% of the total. The harvest progress in southern, central and northern Jiangsu was 100%, 96% and 69%, respectively.
Meanwhile, Jiangsu completed rice transplanting, soybean sowing and corn sowing in fields totaling 3.52 million mu, 1.14 million mu, and 2.66 million mu, respectively, representing the completion of 11%, 38% and 45% of the planned targets. On June 10, Jiangsu successfully harvested 3.45 million mu of wheat, and employed 72,000 harvesters, 11,000 rice transplanters and 16,400 dryers, with 698,000 tonnes of grain dried on that day.
The harvest progress slowed down after the province experienced thunderstorm and gales from north to south, with some areas being affected by hailstones. However, the impact was limited due to active response and a short duration of the bad weather.
The province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has called for close attention to the weather and timely rescheduling of harvesting tasks, with priorities given to harvesting fallen wheat and preventing mold growth. The department has set a deadline of June 15 for the completion of all summer harvesting tasks. Meanwhile, the province will ensure progress in rice transplanting, corn sowing and soybean sowing.
