Aziz, vice general manager of the China-Kazakhstan international logistics base in Lianyungang, arrived in the city from Kazakhstan in November 2022 and is responsible for logistics management at the port.
During the 3rd Jiangsu Development Conference, he said he pays close attention to the development of Jiangsu, just like the province’s people all over the world, and as a foreigner he considers Jiangsu his second hometown.
The logistics base commenced operation in July 2014 as the first physical platform established under the Belt and Road Initiative. The base now operates freight trains on six routes - Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Russia, Europe, and Turkey - via China’s five land ports at Alashankou, Khorgos, Kashgar, Erenhot and Manzhouli.
The freight train service features competitive land-sea intermodal transport as Lianyungang Port has 86 container routes that connect to major destinations and also provides integrated transport services encompassing the ocean, rivers, railways and logistics hubs, according to Aziz.
"Currently, about 30 train trips depart from the base every month, and we hope to increase this number to stimulate the trade flow and facilitate the movement of people," he said.
He also expressed the hope that the base would further contribute to the development of Jiangsu as a prominent route for cross-border logistics transport.
