Gigabit optical fiber network had covered all rural areas in Nanjing by the end of May, with 97% and 96% of villages accessible to 4G and 5G mobile networks respectively, according to the Nanjing Communications Administration.
The city’s information and communication industry has planned to invest 1.08 billion yuan to enhance infrastructure in rural areas this year. Nanjing has also supported the expansion of digital application to cover more villages so people in the countryside can benefit more from digital technologies.
Nanjing has made achievements in building the platform and developing applications for digital transformation of rural areas, such as in the fields of village governance and agricultural production.
The Nanjing Agricultural High-tech Zone, located in Baima Town of Lishui District, has employed 5G, Internet of Things and other technologies to achieve smart management of blackberry and blueberry farms.
This new approach means dynamic monitoring of the environment, intelligent analysis of water and nutrition needs, and automated filed operations. Such efforts have improved the quality and yield of the fruits. For example, the blueberry’s yield increased from 350 kg per mu (about 667 sqm) in traditional growing ways to 1,500 kg, a significant income boost.
