The Omicron variant is spreading quickly in the world and can survive for a long time at low temperatures, so people face an increased risk of infection by touching objects in winter, according to experts of the team.
It’s suggested to limit the online purchases from overseas for the time being and take sufficient measures for self-protection, such as wearing the mask and gloves properly, minimizing the face-to-face talk with the courier, or using a personal pen to sign for the delivery.
Experts also said the virus is often found on the surface of items so it’s better to unbox the package in open air, dispose of the box, or disinfect thoroughly the box first before taking it home. It’s also necessary to remove gloves promptly after handling the delivery, sanitize or wash hands carefully, and also avoid touching mouth, eyes and nose in the procedure.
Experts also called people to get a booster shot for COVID-19 as some studies have found that the variant may enhance its ability to escape vaccine immunity but people who were vaccinated can still have a better defense. Vaccines can still protect people from severe symptoms caused by the Omicron variant.
