Two super-large tunnel boring machines (TBMs), each with a diameter of 16 meters, rolled off the production line at CCCC Tianhe Mechanical Equipment Manufacturing in Changshu City, Jiangsu Province on October 12.
The machines, China's most advanced and intelligent, will be used to build the tunnel under the Yangtze River, linking Gongxin Road in Jingjiang in the north and Furong Avenue in Jiangying in the south.
The two-way six-lane tunnel is 11.825 km long and allows vehicles to drive up to 80 km per hour. With a 6,445 m-long part under the river, the road tunnel stands out for the largest diameter and withstanding the highest water pressure, according to Wang Jun, site manager.
