Main works for building the second offshore wind power grid-connection in East China’s Jiangsu Province have been completed, the largest such project in China.

The province is home to the largest offshore wind power producer in China, with an estimated installed capacity of over 10 million kilowatts.

This second project to connect wind power systems to the electrical grid involves three 500kV substations in Tonghai, Sheyang and Fenghai as well as three 500kV double-circuit lines of 350km long.

Huang Tao, a manager of State Grid Jiangsu Power Engineering Consulting, said the project can improve the offshore wind power transmission capacity of about 6.4 million kilowatts, which is equivalent to reduce emissions of 17.6 million tons of carbon dioxide and 318,000 tons of pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide per year.

The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in November.
