Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, has increasingly used technological means to support COVID-19 response, such as nucleic acid testing and logistics supply.

On August 8, three unmanned vehicles took on the task of disinfection at a hotel in the city’s Jianye District. The device can spray disinfectant over an area of 60,000 sqm in an hour, equivalent to the efficiency of 20 human workers.

Food delivery giant Meituan also put into use two driverless delivery vehicles at the Jiangning Development Zone Airport Industry Park. The vehicle is able to deliver some 20 kinds of daily necessities including rice, flour and vegetables in a single shipment to reach a distance of 5-8 km. One single vehicle can deliver up to about 380 orders a day.

Nucleic acid testing is a core part of epidemic prevention and control. The Huo-Yan or “Fire Eye” Laboratory with 27 Modular Negative Pressure Labs, located in the Nanjing International Expo Centre, is home to top-notch equipment developed by MGI, a global life science technology company. To take an example, the automated nucleic acid extractor, MGISP-NE384, has a maximum throughput up to 10,000 samples per day.

The "Falcon" air-inflated mobile testing lab established at the Youth Olympics Sports Park in Jiangning District also achieves automation in reagent preparation and result reporting.

Also in the district, a local healthcare center has been equipped with a vehicle-carried mobile CT scanner. The mobile facility consists of three separate functional zones and supports easy chest scans.

Among the technical products to contain the spread of COVID-19 is a comprehensive contactless system that combines four modules - body temperature screening, health QR code check, face recognition and ID verification - at some residential compounds. Such devices can help reduce risk of cross infection and improves efficiency too.
