Jiangsu Foundation for Disabled Persons raised 121 million yuan in 2020 and benefited about 70,000 people with disabilities, according to the foundation’s meeting held on April 21.
The foundation will focus on eight programs including donation of electrical appliances and education support this year, among which five will be promoted online on Tencent Gongyi, the charity arm of the Internet giant. This will help raise fund, improve program supervision, and explore new ways to help disabled people.
Zhang Jianping, director of the foundation, said 36,000 electrical appliances were handed over to the disabled in the province and involved a total amount of 14.83 million yuan.
The foundation also overcame the challenge of COVID-19 to provide a fund of nearly 5 million yuan and supported donation of TVs, washing machines and other home appliances. Two cities - Nanjing and Yancheng - stood out for purchasing over 6,000 unit each in the program.
In 2021, the foundation will improve the program and also include refrigerators in order to meet the needs of people with disabilities. It also plans to increase the education subsidy to 500 top performing children from families with a disabled person to 3,000 yuan each. Since its launch in 2014, this education-orientated program has helped 2,132 students with a total fund of 5.913 million yuan.
