Yangzhou police raced against time to help a Vietnamese crew member on a Panama-registered cargo ship berthed in the city’s Jiangdu Port on February 9.
The crew member had his hand injured badly by steel wire and needed surgery urgently. After receiving the call for help, local police at Yangzhou Border Inspection Station immediately activated the emergency response plan, opened a green channel to apply for temporary entry permit for the member, and also contacted the local CDC to coordinate the treatment.
The cargo ship has 21 Vietnamese crew members who are all in good health with body temperature measured daily as part of COVID-19 response measures. The injured is taking treatment at the 3rd People’s Hospital in Jiangdu.
