Jiangsu defends against second wave of COVID-19

Jiangsu Governor Wu Zhenglong presided over a meeting of the province’s work leading group for the prevention and control of COVID-19 on March 29, discussing further efforts to curb surge of infected people arriving from new hotspots overseas and also promote economic and social development.

Jiangsu will implement strict measures to prevent COVID-19 cases imported from other countries and the possible new round of epidemic outbreak. The province will step up coordination, improve the information sharing, and ensure efforts to cover all arriving passengers through the sea, land and air control points. All passengers need to complete the centralized quarantine for 14 days, and risk of infection during the transport procedure will also be minimized. Jiangsu will improve services to be people-orientated, intensify international cooperation, establish a routine and systematic working mechanism, get ready the health emergency responses, increase control efforts at the grassroots level, take more proactive measures at border checkpoints, and try to prevent a second wave of outbreak.

According to the meeting, Jiangsu will also accelerate efforts to resume production and get back to normal, improve coordination and cooperation in the industry chain, implement various measures to help key industries and SMEs hit hard by the epidemic, and keep the job market stable. The province will boost consumption, support the construction of core projects and new infrastructure, keep foreign trade and investment stable, ensure progress in agriculture, work safety and people’s livelihood, prepare for opening schools, and strive to complete the goals of the year.
