The 8th Forum on Image Studies and Global Communication convened in Shanghai on June 21 under the theme "Navigating Global Uncertainty: Discourse, Media, and Global Governance," attracting over 80 experts from universities and media outlets in China, the United States, Italy, Japan, and Singapore.

Amid escalating global uncertainties brought by geopolitical conflicts and technological disruptions, building a more effective global communication discourse has become an urgent imperative. As a critical bridge for dialogue, media holds a foundational role in national image-building and global governance.

The forum is held under such circumstances to deepen collaboration between academia and the media industry to spark innovative approaches in image studies and foster a new ecosystem for global communication.

Experts from five countries delivered keynote speeches on topics including international communication, image reconstruction, discourse competition, digital sovereignty, and strategic rivalry.

During the roundtable discussion on local innovation in international communication, representatives from 12 media outlets of different levels across China explored communication strategies on enhancing regional visibility in global communication, creating regional IPs and building communication ecosystems.

The forum also included six parallel forums in which thematic discussions were held on international image and communication practices, global platforms and multicultural interaction, regional studies and global governance, digital storytelling in intercultural contexts, film/media narratives, emotion, and communication and audiovisual culture and media resonance.
