Nantong City in Jiangsu Province has named ten overseas Chinese community and business leaders, such as Chen Hui, president of Nantong Overseas Chamber of Commerce, to help promote the city’s cuisine and food culture abroad.
In announcing the food ambassadors on March 16, the city also launched a promotion alliance for the implementation of Chinese Food Prosperity Plan and unveiled training bases to facilitate the program’s progress.
Nantong, which borders the Yangtze River and the sea, is famous for its fresh and abundant aquatic products, and some food brands also enjoy a high reputation both in Jiangsu and other regions. Additionally, Nantong is also home of more than 100,000 overseas Chinese working or living in more than 120 countries and regions.
The Chinese Food Prosperity Plan was introduced by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council in 2014. In recent years, Nantong has recognized one training base, seven practice bases and two overseas promotion bases under the program. These efforts have continuously helped Nantong's catering industry to go global.
