Nanjing opened its second book fair featuring the city’s status as a UNESCO designated City of Literature at Jinchaung Bookstore, a cultural landmark in the capital city of Jiangsu Province.
The opening ceremony started with a reciting of The Young China, a famous essay by Liang Qichao (1873-1929), a pioneering reformer.
Also part of the 12th Jiangsu Book Fair, the event from July 2 to 6 showcases more than 100,000 books and also includes some 400 activities held at district-level libraries and community bookstores.
New books including a chronicle of Nanjing’s literary legacies were also launched. The book fair is expected to encourage reading and love of books in the capital of six dynasties in ancient China.
Professionals from the book publishing and distributing sectors in other UNESCO cities of literature including Edinburgh also participated online exchanges in celebration of the book fair’s opening.
