A public display hall of Nanjing’s old city wall bricks opened on January 9 at the foot of the Nanjing City Wall of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) which runs along the Qinhuai River.
The displayed items were the result of a campaign initiated three years ago to collect all bricks originally forming the ancient structure. Many companies have helped the protection, repair and utilization of the city wall as well as the application for official acknowledgement of its heritage status. The public also provided valuable clues for the whereabouts of the city wall bricks. More than 200,000 bricks have been recovered in the campaign.
The pavilion housing the displays plans to organize activities to disseminate the cultural significance of the city wall so that locals and visitors alike will appreciate it even more.
