The 34th Qinhuai Lantern Festival, a time-honored folk culture carnival, is ready for the Chinese New Year celebration in Nanjing, according to a press conference held on January 5.
From January 17 to February 11, a creative mix of technological elements such as water curtains, drones, and robots will bring more amazing experiences to visitors both online and offline.
Tencent's smash-hit mobile game "Honor of Kings" will be featured in the fair for the first time, with its main characters to dominate the glowing sculptures at the Confucius Temple from January 17 to 31, side-by-side with penguin-shaped lanterns.
Among other highlights, Bailuzhou Park will also display a lighting set designed by the descendants of the Dutch post-Impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh. It takes inspiration from his well-known series of oil paintings Sunflowers in cooperation with Gu Yeliang, a master of Qinhuai-style lantern, a national intangible cultural heritage item.
Iconic Qinhuai-style lanterns also lit up the famous GLOW Eindhoven in the Netherlands and shone at similar events in New Taipei City, Taiwan, Shanghai, Xi’an, and Yancheng.
Nanjing became a UNESCO Network of Creative Cities in literature last year. The lantern festival is a key part of the city’s cultural charms and people’s celebration of the Lunar New Year.
