As the first cold wave this winter hit Jiangsu, the province has made active efforts to ensure the stable supply of daily necessities including grains, edible oil, meat and vegetables.
Chen Sujuan, head of office for East China Agricultural Market in Suqian City, said the market has increased the vegetable storage warehouse by 80 square meters to reach 200 square meters. The market saw the selling of 572.12 tons of vegetables, 282.62 tons of fruits and 276.22 tons of aquatic products on November 21. Chen added there are enough stocks and sufficient storage space to meet the market needs and people should not worry about the supply at all.
The Kunchen Xin’an Vegetables Market in Nanjing’s Jianye District has also enough stock of essential items and groceries. Prices of the Chinese cabbage, potato and pepper all dropped compared with last month, according to Li Xiujun, a local resident. She also said, if temperatures fall sharply, she prefers to place orders online and there’s no need for panic buying.
Data from the Nanjing Agricultural and Sideline Products Logistics and Distribution Center showed the new arrival of 2,900 tons of vegetables on November 20, an increase of 0.9% than last week and a fall of 23.7% than last month. The average prices of 69 items monitored by the center reached 7.2 yuan per kilogram, down 0.1% than last week and 3.2% than in last month.
