Jiangsu had 39 enterprises participating the 4th China International Tea Expo, which opened in Hangzhou City of Zhejiang Province on May 21, also the International Tea Day.
Among the exhibitors were Dongting Biluochun, a famous green tea grown in the Dongting mountain region, and Yixing’s signature black tea. Biluochun has won awards and honors since 1910. The traditional techniques of producing Biluochun in Wuzhong was recognized as an intangible agricultural heritage in 2020, and then included in the Chinese geographical indications system also under protection in the EU.
Yixing’s black tea had a written record of farming since the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. In recent years, the specialty has become increasingly well-known in the market, becoming an important industry to increase farmers’ income and support the countryside development. 2018 saw the registration of "Yixinghong" as a national geographical trademark.
Jiangsu also showcased other popular brands usually known for their growth regions such as Tianmu Lake, Jintan District and Maoshan Town. The exhibition also included interesting shows and demonstrations of tea-making and drinking traditions as well as new iterations together with coffee and ice-cream offerings. At this year's expo, many brands made marketing efforts both online and offline to reach a wider audience.
In recent years, Jiangsu has stepped up measures to promote industrial restructuring and support the sustainability and innovation of the industry, which has become an important source of income for farmers and also improve the countryside environment.
