Holiday travel in Yangtze River Delta makes strong recovery

Passenger trips by train and air saw a strong recovery during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush that ended on February 15.

In the Yangtze River Delta region, rail trips increased 35.5% year-on year, surpassing the national level and accounting for more than 90% of the regional volume in the corresponding period of 2019.

Jiangsu Eastern Airport Group, which manages main airports in the province, reported 33,000 passenger flights, 85.7% of the number recorded during the same holiday in 2019. The volume of domestic passengers through Nanjing Lukou International Airport recovered to more than 80% of the volume in 2019, with Yangzhou Taizhou International Airport reaching nearly 100%, and 90% and 80% at Xuzhou Airport and Changzhou Airport, respectively.

The number of inbound and outbound passengers also rose gradually as Nanjing Lukou International Airport resumed flights to Southeast Asia and also increased flights to Hong Kong and Macao.

Data showed outbound flights to Macao and Bangkok had occupancy rates of over 80% and the inbound flight from Seoul had an occupancy rate of more than 80%.
