During the same period, 38 ro-ro vessels arrived at Nanjing Port, which handled 17,380 vehicles , an increase of 20% compared to the previous year.
Thanks to the renovation of a 12.5m deep water channel, Nanjing has become an important port of destination for vessels on the Yangtze River and from the sea.
Currently, container ships from Nanjing can reach Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia, with the transport network closely coordinated with the China-Europe freight train services.
As per Nanjing's plan, the city aims to enhance the cargo throughput capacity at terminals along the river to 255 million tonnes by 2025 and concentrate on developing near-sea shipping lines.
