Pishi Street in Guangling ancient town in Yangzhou has recently hosted a successful crafts fair with 25 stalls for kinds of crafts, attracting over 15,000 visitors on the night of May 15, among which 60% were aged 20 to 40.
Yangzhou is one of the first to be recognized as a national historical and cultural city by the State Council. In the ancient town of 5.09 square kilometers, more than 30% has been preserved intact, making it a great place to appreciate the essence of Yangzhou's history and culture over 2,500 years.
At the crafts market, visitors also enjoyed the stunning light shows, a display of traditional costume Hanfu, and other remarkable performances. Among the displays were innovative creations, handmade accessories and embroidery works, which brought to life the venue’s historical legacy.
Born in 1980s, Zhang Qi is a maker of handmade leather goods. Her stall attracted many visitors interested in the leather wallets, keychains and handbags. Zhang also said she was glad that her creations match well with the cultural vibe.
Wang Jun, also a post-80s entrepreneur, opened a bookstore at Pishi Street in 2003. After more than a decade of development, his bookstore now plays an important role in producing crafts and hosting exhibitions, building a reputation of being young, cool and artistic.
