The gross domestic product (GDP) of the Yangtze River Delta region, which encompasses Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui, exceeded 30 trillion yuan in 2023 for the first time, marking a year-on-year growth of 5.7% and comprising 24.4% of the national total.

The delta region’s GDP reached 7.4 trillion yuan in the first quarter of this year, accounting for about 25% of the country's total GDP.

In recent years, in pursuing high-quality integrated development, the delta region has fully supported the S&T innovation community, and facilitated a rise in the number of national laboratories and technological infrastructures.

The region has also expedited its digital transformation with the construction of over 660,000 5G base stations.

Furthermore, the region has intensified efforts in green and low-carbon development, as part of the measures to achieve the dual carbon goal. Thanks to the joint governance in ecological protection and management, the region’s main cities have seen the share of days with good air quality reaching 83.7%.
