Jiangsu has intensified its efforts to improve its railway network this year, with investment reaching 15.6 billion yuan in the first quarter, up 15.6% year-on-year.
Construction of the Jiangsu section of a new high-speed railway along the north shore of the Yangtze River is currently in full swing. More than 900 workers and 100 machines were deployed for the railway’s construction in Nantong on April 9. The Jiangsu section is expected to open by the end of October 2027.
The Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High-Speed Railway, set to open by the year’s end, will act as a crucial transportation link within the Yangtze River Delta, significantly enhancing the region’s intercity passenger travel.
In 2024, Jiangsu plans to speed up the development of intermodal freight transport hubs, with a focus on railway-based logistics bases in Northern and Central Jiangsu.
Additionally, the Yangkou Port-Lyusi Port Railway, Jiangsu’s first local railway project involving an investment of over 10 billion yuan, is in the acceptance stage before becoming operational. This railway is expected to play a key role in freight transportation in the Tongzhou Bay area, also boosting logistics efficiency and reducing costs for enterprises along the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Furthermore, the construction of the Jiangdu special railway line saw an investment of 50 million yuan in the first quarter, achieving 29.2% of its annual target, with a total investment of 511 million yuan completed since the start of the project.
