Jiangsu Province has registered the trading of over 1 million green electricity certificates, each representing 1,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy, making it the largest scale among province-level regions nationwide, according to the data released by Jiangsu Power Exchange Center Co Ltd on August 16.

Jiangsu is one of the first provinces in China to approve the trading of electricity certificates. In this program, renewable electricity producers can acquire a certificate, issued by the National Renewable Energy Power Generation Project Information Management Platform, and then sell the certificate for economic and environmental benefits.

Wei Xu, general manager of Jiangsu Power Exchange Center Co Ltd, said the trading helps market players embrace green consumption and reduce carbon emissions. "The province's outstanding trading volume comes from export-oriented and foreign-funded companies, mainly located in Suzhou, Wuxi and other areas in southern Jiangsu," Wei added.

At present, some multinational enterprises have pledged to support the use of 100% renewable electricity, and some countries have also set clear requirements on the consumption of green power for imports and exports. The certificates become proof of such low-carbon commitment and an important way to facilitate eco-friendly trade worldwide.

Wuxi Pro-face Electronics Co Ltd, key factory of Schneider Electric, has 80% of its electronic products, including touch screens for exporting. In March of this year, the company purchased 6,732 certificates to realize 100% green electricity. This eco-friendly transition helps win orders and enhance competitiveness in overseas markets.

In addition, Suzhou Bearing Factory Co Ltd, a major exporter of industrial bearings, has purchased 1,872 green certificates since February, ensuring that 10% of its electricity consumption comes from renewable power.
