Construction of railways across the Yangtze River Delta region has accelerated, with more than 20 projects progressing smoothly as planned.
Last year, the delta region's investment in railway infrastructure reached 108.9 billion yuan, maintaining a scale of over 80 billion yuan for seven consecutive years.
As of the end of last year, the operational railways in the region spanned 13,749.7 km, including 6,704.4 km of high-speed rail. This accounts for one-sixth of the country's total and is equivalent to the combined length of railways in Japan and Spain, which rank second and third globally after China.
From January to May, the delta region's railway network served 300 million passengers, an increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2019.
The region aims to build a vast and efficient railway network by 2025, spanning a total length of nearly 16,700 kilometers, with almost 9,200 kilometers dedicated to high-speed trains.
