Jiangsu Province held its first simulation of electricity spot market program from January 25 to 27, becoming the first to take the step among China’s second batch of pilot provinces for the power distribution scheme.
The simulated operation involved four buyers and the day-ahead or intraday power supply by the province’s 134 coal-fired power plants and nuclear power units, with a total generating capacity of 77.93 million kilowatts. The experiment showed a smooth trading process from price offering to efficient management and the reasonable market-clearing price.
In April 2021, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration announced six provinces, including Jiangsu, as the second batch of pilot regions for the electricity spot market. The simulation in Jiangsu will help improve the actual operation of the program and the trading system’s functions.
