As 2021 draws to a close, Taicang Port in Jiangsu Province saw its container throughput by December 29 stand at 7,022,129 twenty-foot equivalent units, exceeding the threshold of 7 million.

On the same day, the first cargo train on an exclusive railway for Taicang Port left a yard and headed for Putian Station in Zhengzhou of Central China’s Henan Province.

The two new milestones mean an advanced logistics and transportation network is taking shape in Taicang Port, enabling it to play a more effective role in the development of the heart of Yangtze River Economic Belt and the ports of Yangtze River Delta.

In recent years, Taicang Port has actively aligned the development with the delta’s integration, the strategy to build Shanghai into a world-class international shipping center, and development priorities of Taicang city and its industries. The port’s container throughput in 2021 rose by 34% year on year, ranking first in the Yangtze River area for 12 years in a row and first in Jiangsu for four consecutive years. Taicang Port is now the 8th largest port in China.
