The power transmission lines for Huawei Qidong offshore wind farm, which boasts the largest unit capacity and most types of wind turbines in China, are fully ready on November 20 when the 220 kV switching station was delivered.
An investment of the Jiangsu Branch of State Grid, the station was built by the Jiangsu Provincial Power Transmission and Distribution Co., Ltd.
Located about 40 kilometers away from the shore, the wind farm has a total installed capacity of more than 800 megawatts and consists of 84 wind turbines. The wind farm is estimated to have an annual electricity output of 2.2 billion kWh, more than half of Qidong’s electricity demand.
This project helps cut the use of 730,000 tonnes of coal a year, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.62 million tonnes. It plays an important role in promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of the energy structure in Jiangsu Province. By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan, Jiangsu’s offshore wind power generation will reach about 13 million kilowatts, a significant contribution to the country’s goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
