Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, moved further ahead by three spots on the list of top 100 S&T clusters in the world, ranking fourth in China, according to the "Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021", released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
China is home to 19 of the 100 S&T clusters, with Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou ranked second, followed by Beijing at the third place and Shanghai the 8th spot. Nanjing, Hangzhou and Wuhan ranked 18th, 21st and 25th respectively.
As the only middle-income economy among the world's top 30 most innovative countries, China has made continuous progress from ranking 14th last year to 12th this year.
