Jiangsu sees foreign trade up 17.4% in January-July

Total import and export value of Jiangsu hit over 2.82 trillion yuan in the January-July period, up 17.4% year on year, and accounted for 13.2% of the country’s total foreign trade, according to data by Nanjing Customs.

In the first seven months, exports and imports of products under the general trade category, which are differentiated from processing trade, reached over 1.6 trillion yuan, accounting for 56.8% of the province’s total foreign trade.

The province's trade volume with the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the United States, South Korea and Japan increased 18.7%, 21.5%, 15%, 6.8% and 10.8%, respectively, during the period. Trade with countries along the Belt and Road totaled 714.6 billion yuan, up 22.2% year on year.

Private enterprises played an important role in the province’s foreign trade, with a volume of over 1.05 trillion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 28.6% and 11.2 percentage points higher than the provincial average growth. Private enterprises contributed to 37.2% of the province’s total foreign trade, an increase of 3.2 percentage points over the same period last year.
