Huai’an inland waterway ports kept the top spot in Jiangsu for handling 244,000 TEUs (20-foot-equivalent units) in the year of 2019, exceeding the goal of 215,000 TEUs, an increase of 20.1 percent year on year.

At present, there are 11 waterway transportation lines from Huai'an to places along the river and coast. As of the end of last year, the city reported the operation of 14 freight trains and delivery of 688 TEUs.

Amid the government support to boost container transportation by waterway, Huiai’an has helped local enterprises apply for subsidies of 4.7 million yuan. It also conducted researches and visits to integrate transportation resources in coordination with Huai'an New Port and South Port, helping streamline the transportation, loading and unloading operations. The city has organized two transport companies to share freighters, agents and container space to optimize operation and efficiency.

In 2020, with a priority to build the Grand Canal Culture Belt, Huai’an will continue the development of port infrastructure, strengthen cooperation and exchanges with river and sea ports, ensure a robust growth of container transportation, and create a road-rail-water intermodal center in the New Port area.
