Jiangsu athlete Wang Ciyue contributes to China's first artistic swimming Olympic gold

Wang Ciyue, an athlete from Jiangsu Province, along with her teammates helped China claim its first ever Olympic gold medal.

Born in Nanjing in 1999, Wang joined the provincial team of artistic swimming in 2014. She was also part of the Chinese team that secured first place at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Her teammates include Chang Hao, Feng Yu, Wang Liuyi, Wang Qianyi, Xiang Binxuan, Xiao Yanning and Zhang Yayi. The team achieved a record-high score of 996.1389 in the event. Team U.S. took the silver with a score of 914.3421, and team Spain finished third with 900.7319.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Chinese team won the bronze medal in artistic swimming, marking their first Olympic medal in the event.
