The 14th Jiangsu Book Fair, held at the Suzhou International Expo Centre from July 5 to 9, features a beautiful pavilion dedicated to the province’s chronicles.

The pavilion’s design is inspired by classical gardens of Suzhou and highlights a fusion of the brilliant Wu culture, central the province, and modern life. It welcomes visitors to explore the Jiangnan culture or read books.

The books on display include themed chronicles, publications from the province’s second round of compiling local annals, documents on the province’s famed towns and villages, the results of compiling old annals, and local books from various cities. At the last book fair, the 13 stamps for cultural landmarks across the province’s 13 cities garnered much attention. This year, the pavilion offers an updated version of this initiatives, featuring iconic buildings and representative flowers of these cities on separate pieces, which form a map of Jiangsu when assembled.

Furthermore, the venue also hosts shows of intangible cultural heritage, as recorded in the chronicles, such as Wuxi fine embroidery, Rugao puppet play, peasant paintings from Duotian, Hou-style writing brush from Tongshan, lacquer fans, and Yunjin brocade.
